The solstice was a few days ago, and right before that a full moon that set the tone for summer. A tone that brings into focus the balance between your desire for playful creative expression and your commitment to living in alignment with social and natural principles. Your personal play and enjoyment versus a long term vision with higher ideals that helps to keep everyone happy and healthy in the long run.
It’s been a tough spring with a relentless quality of getting things in order with many setbacks and disappointments. Even if you’ve been wanting to let loose and relax you may have found it not that easy to do so. Unexpected obstacles or complications may have gotten in the way, or things you should have taken care of in the past but didn’t.
This past full moon shined a spotlight on all of the ups and downs of the past few months. We are just on the other side the longest day of the year, and you are likely looking forward to a summer of activity, enjoyment, and exploration. The good news is that softer energies are already starting to flow. Within a month or so, things will soften considerably and there will be ample room to relax and recharge your batteries in a way that hasn’t really been possible for sometime.
However, temperance is needed. It’s important not to lose sight of the lessons that you have learned / are learning. There are still many places to trip up in relationships, business, and in the overall big picture over the next month or so. Are you effectively addressing the more challenging aspects of life proactively and courageously?
Look to the roots of what’s important to you in life, and how you connect to family, home, safety, and comfort on a fundamental level. What really supports you in life and helps you to grow and learn consistently, safely, and effectively over long time cycles?
A full moon is the climax of a 2 week cycle that has been building emotionally since the last new moon. This full moon falls right after the summer solstice, an important quarter transition point in the annual cycle of the Sun. Due to this and other strong connections to longer term cycles playing out, it is a powerful time of transition and a good time to reorient yourself with the big picture of your life and whats important to you this summer.
The Roots of Things
This new moon falls in the nakṣatra of Mūla and the raśi of Sagittarius while being strongly connected to Jupiter through an exchange of signs. It also sits across from a focus of energy in Gemini that involves Mercury, Venus, and of course the Sun. Nakṣatra are the more subtle lunar signs that are like an emotional filter through which our psychological interpretation of life events pass.
Mūla is symbolized by a bundle of roots and ruled by the chaotic goddess Nirṛiti. It relates to complex entanglements of patterns that don’t align with nature and need to be pulled out by their roots in order to make room for new growth. This full moon shines a light on problems in our lives that need to be addressed at their root level from a psychological perspective.
It can be a challenging and difficult to do so, and addressing problems at the root has long lasting implications. Uprooting a stubborn and long lasting problem or difficulty in your life can be just as big or bigger than something new and good happening. In many cases, there is no room for new good things to grow in our life because the garden of our life is choked with noxious weeds or unsuitable and irrelevant plants (for our needs).
